DJ Shotnez - Toma Toma EP

DJ Shotnez, or Ori Kaplan as he was born, is one of the factors why UrbanWorld is here today. You may not know it but back in the early 2000 when Ori lived in NYC he was part of a movement that created the Rubulad alternative parties, he was founding member of the gypsie punk band Gogol Bordello and balkan band J.U.F. which later went on to become Balkan Beat Box.

It was in NYC - highly inspired by the world beats scene which Ori Kaplan was an integrated part of - that UrbanWorld was created. So it is with huge respect that we welcome DJ Shotnez's debut dance floor EP - Toma Toma. The EP includes 4 original tracks which all have that global bass feeling on the dance floor, plus 4 remixes to top it off just right.

La Piranha Selección

Palner y Thykier has been working hard for a long time to bring you an UrbanWorld mixtape. La Piranha Seleccion is a collection of tracks perfectly aligned with the sound of the “La Piranha” parties held in Copenhagen by the two together with Schack a highly acclaimed party promoter in Copenhagen. Palner exiled to San Francisco and Schack to Brazil to gain inspiration and collect music for the future La Piranha’s.

This mixtape collects 90 minutes of tropical party beats - released on UrbanWorld - into a smooth tropical feel. From dub and cumbia, over moombahton and raggaeton to baile funk and samba inspired house. We carefully selected and floor tested every track to get the right atmosphere for our “La Piranha” parties.

French Wine - New EP by Kosta Kostov

Kosta Kostov is a well known man at UrbanWorld, just read the introduction i did a long time agoe. Kosta is also a very funny man, just look at the picture below from one of his morning rituals, eating peaches and oats.

His new EP French Wine is a proof of Kosta's humor and a showcase of how Germans party. Anybody who been to Cologne knows what i am talking about... If you havnt been, its time to go before you get to old... The two original tracks is pure party, club beats with inspiration from all around the globe and simple lyrics like you find them in b-more. French Wine is a tribute to the red liquid and Peaches and Oats makes fun of the German accent (It is alright people of the United Kingdom, we do not expect you to understand why it's funny) where Peaches and Oats easily get to be Bitches and Hoes.

Kosta went all the way and made two fun videos, which you do need to watch.

Copia Doble Systema - Suelta La Voz EP

Copia Doble Systema is making it a habbit to stir up the new cumbia scence. With thier new EP entitled Suelta La Voz they once again deliver with their unique sound of 8-bit viking cumbia.  It is the type of cumbia - less tradition; more innovation - that you would expect from Copia Doble Systema, it's heavy on the bassline. The main track features vocals by Pepita, and on the B-side we have the track Boom Boom, also with vocals by Pepita and visiting singer Shivana.

These tracks have been seriously live tested throughout the summer and fans will recognize the sound from their live sets. To back it all up, some of the heavy hitters on the tropical floor made their own versions, Joelito, Javier Estrada, Maffi and Thornato. Get your feets in shape, and do the cumbia moves.

Introducing: Farrapo & Yanez (Album Out Now on Agogo)

Its with great pleasure that i see Farrapo and Yanez masterpeice "Alien Na Favela" of an album finally on the streets, released by Agogo Records. Its been coming for a long time, and heavily timetested on my stereo since Farrapo gave me a copy of the unmastered album when their EP was about to hit the streets.

He almost convinced me to break the UWR codex of no albums..

I asked Farrapo what inpired him to do this album: The principal inspiration for our album is it simply brasilian music, that is it so rich with many different styles. In particolar you can listen the influences from north est of Brasil. We mixed brasilian regional styles with urban electronic sounds and rhythms, trying to keep an organic groove. 

Knowing Farrapo, you know he has a thing for cooking, just check this video by Tele Cocina from his visit in Copenhagen last year.

So it felt natural also to ask him what dish he would be cooking to Alien Na Favela: ehhe ..... music and food are two big passions for me and in several of the tracks I've produce you can find connection to the food. For Alien Na Favela I would cook a typical "fejoada" but using some "guanciale", that could rapresent the alien inside the favela.

Mixtape me! :: Anne Lorenz :: FLÖTENKREIS

It wasn't easy to get this mixtape for our UrbanWorld Blog and that's why i am very happy to present it. And proud! The autor is for me the toughest music digger I've seen out there. If you want a direct and very concret feedback on your music, just ask her - Annegret aka Lachsbärchen aka Anne Lorenz, based in Cologne music journalist, MC, joking singer (part of the Cologne Boom Chak Crew) and best friend. She likes the topic mixes.
