After a long dark January here at the northern hemisphere it is really good to hear that Solo Moderna have been busy with a remix of Empresarios. Unfortunately its not up for direct streaming yet, but Fort Knox are dropping it in their newest mixtape here.

The Hanoi superstar expat, Dj Polo, has invited Copyflex for a b2b set on infamous Phuc Tan riverboat club venue on Red River in Hanoi. A tropical bass night in the most international sense!
Expect a wild mix of moombahton, house, bailefunk, balkan swing, digital cumbia, screwed 3ball and vietnamese style electro hits.

Phuc Tan is a big nightlife space facing the Red River with very late hours. This is the latest incarnation of what was originally the Phuc Tan Bar, then Barracuda, then Lighthouse, with a new owner looking to bring back the crowds that once called it home every weekend. After burning the dancefloor, you can lay back in the couches, play pool, or chill out on our terrace facing the river.

The place got a dodgy rep - and its probably true. Expect a mad night in a very crazy place! You've been warned!

UWR* Artists: Monthly Round-Up Of Remixes

Starting now, we introduce a monthly post rounding-up some of the work UWR* artists are doing outside the kindergarden.

First of all, Al Lindrum, Kosta Kostov and Los Chicos Altos have all been part of a new EP by Professor Angle Dust a leading figure in the electronic music scene of Barcelona. Returning from a dj gig in Panama, López was forced to act as a drug mule. He was busted at Tocumen airport and is currently serving a long sentence in a Panamanian prison. Unstoppable, the Professor built an improvised music studio in his jail cell to produce.

The Ep features 9 remixes, including 3 from UWR* Artists and is released on Post World Industries - You can get it on their Bandcamp Site.

Continuously searching for new and exciting flavours is what drives us at UrbanWorld, and this time we really found something fresh and special. From the streets of Jakarta we bring you a whole new sound of hiphop in Indonesian! Jalan means street and Surabaya is one of the biggest cities in Indonesia. Most big cities in Indonesia would have a street called Jalan Surabaya, however the one in Jakarta is particularly special - it is an antique market where they sell old wood carvings, porcelain, puppets, nautical equipment and of course vinyl. This is where the band hung out, looking for records to sample. As always the remixers are top notch, with well known Blend Mishkin from Cast'a'Bast with a dancehall style version. The danish producer Dub Pirate who also is the main producer behind Junkyard Production (and sure to return on UrbanWorld in 2012 with an EP of their own) with a spaced out dub refix. BudZillus and KommodoreK with a crazy surf'n'dub remix and to round it all off in a D'n'B style we are happy to have the Basement Freaks behind the controls.

It happend, the UrbanWorld family crew last weekend, with Palner getting a boy. But not only growth in that way, we also grow because of a great womex meeting two weeks agoe, where people from all over got together and started the birth of a new world music movement. The movement is still like a new born baby, but just you wait and see what will happen in the future. We are looking forward to it. One of the persons I meet at Womex was Panko from Ojos de Brujo, who just made this DJ mix which i like a lot, so here you go FROM RUMBA TO CUMBIA by PANKO NEW SETS

WOMEX POST 1 - Thursday Night - Akwaaba

WOMEX (world music expo) is going to roll in on Copenhagen from tomorrow, we have the big pleasure to have an abundant number of high quality world music DJs in town, and the UWR* crew are making sure this weekend will not go down quietly.

Today I am very happy to present Bbrave from Akwaaba Records in Ghana, he is on the forefront of African club music and are going to play with Malekko Blass (Chusma, Berlin). Mo Fire (UWR*), Dixone (YoFok) & Palner (UWR*) at NEXT HYPE this Thursday at Stengade. It is going to get crazy, with 100 free beers to the early birds and plenty of bass music.

Akwaaba just released an compilation of Liberian clubmusic, collected over the summer by African dance music expert Chief Boima who spent some time in Monrovia, where he identified key artists. It is a mix of Hipco (Libarian version of HipHop) and Gbema (electronic version of traditional Libarian music). You should really check this release and read the full story here.

Our very good friends from Djumasoundsystem have resently become an unwanted center of attention in Denmarks first legal trial about the use of samples. Their track Les Djinns use a 10 sec. sample from an old track called "Turkish Showbiz" for which use they are now being sued for more than 100.000 Euro.

It is the sample at 2 min.

They are now looking for a piece of music that sounds similar to the guitar theme in "Les Djinns" and Thurkish Showbiz. It has to be made prior to "Turkish showbiz", but uses the same notes! Could be any genre, any emotion. they need it for the legal trial to proove that all music is basicly a copy of something which have already been made.

Los Chicos Altos - Pa'lante EP - Out 19th of August

Los Chicos Altos are not your average Latin-American chicos--really!We found these guys residing in Barcelona, they were easy to spot because their height makes them stand out from regular Catalans.Additionally, since Maxey Blaze is a white German and T-Bird is a black dude from California, they were even more noticeable. Their debut EP on UrbanWorld Records is something they describe as a Trans-Atlantic, Euro-merican blend, uniquely incorporating Afro-Peruvian music, Cumbia and Chillout.

The EP's title track, "Pa'lante" uses African percussion & polyrhythms originally brought to the Americas with the black slaves and combines it with Flamenco from the Spanish colonizers, while "Un Día Soleado" is a Peruvian Cumbia."Zamba Malató, Landó" is a chill tune for sunny days in the hammock and "Toro Mata" is a bonus bootleg track which is not part of the original EP, but you can give it away freely on your blog.

The lyrics for "Pa'lante" and "Zamba Malató, Landó" are from Nicomedes Santa Cruz an important person in Afro-Peruvian music, who popularized it in the 1950s. Los Chicos Altos get help from the talented artists Jaime Negro and Claudia Naranjo Pantoja (members of the South-American group Paloq'sea,) Jose Rodriguez, Dani Txarnegö and Pau Baiges (musicians from Spain.) Hi friends, we have been getting massive feedback on our new release even before release date. After Solo Moderna made a remix of Oriol Vandela's "Music Man" we were very keen on getting him back to produce a full EP. Here is the result. A mash-up of what you think is genres into something new and beautiful. The title track "Sonido Pouble" is an original nuevo cumbia, not just a bootleg or mashup of old tunes like you here massivly these days. Pouble comes from the French junk or waistbin and refers to the hometown organization Poubelle where Solo Moderna mostly buy his vegetables but also instruments like waisted 10 euro guitars, drums, xylophones etc witch he have been using on Sonido Pouble. So in fact it's a junk- or waistbin sonido! Check it out here, and also check the Farrapo and Dixone remixes.

Danish producers Dokkedal & Dixen is behind a Danish support project for the kids in the Kibera-Slum in Nirobi, the capital of Kenya, please support the project and spread the link and music below.

Hvis de unge i Kenya vil høres, må de råbe noget højere, plejer Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke at sige med et glimt i øjet. Det har de unge kenyanere nu gjort ved at give deres stemmer, tekst og musik til danske djs/producere, der vil sprede budskabet til de danske unge: støt de unge i Kenya!

Simon Dokkedal fra dj-kollektivet Den Sorte Skole har bevæbnet sig med en diktafon og tilbragt en uge i Østafrikas største slum – Kibera-slummen i Kenyas hovedstad, Nairobi, hvor han mødte unge stemmer og musikere fra slummen. Optagelserne med kenyanernes budskab og vokaler er endt hos en række af Københavns bedste djs og producere. Alt er vendt på hovedet og omdannet til en elektronisk musikcollage. Med det viser de danske kunstnere deres støtte til de unge fra slummen, som kæmper for en bedre fremtid.

Rejsen har ikke kun musikalsk, men også personligt været en spændende oplevelse for Simon Dokkedal: ”Det, jeg så, var en masse livsglæde og motivation hos mennesker, der lever under nogle helt sindssygt trange kår. De har så utrolig lidt, men deres liv er fyldt med glæde over selv de midste ting. Det er noget, vi virkelig kan lære noget af i Danmark. Jeg vil gerne opfordre alle til at bakke op om projektet ved at sprede musikken samt gøre et bidrag!”

Farrapo & Yanez started in 2005 when the singer/composer Yanez Servadei and Giorgio Cencetti (DJ Farrapo) decided to mix their experiences and bring up a fresh mix of electro-brazilian music. Several releases later on Afro Art, Tam Tam Studio and Agogo Records, the duo is ready with a release for UrbanWorld Records.

Samborigeno is a high-energy samba electro track, the remixes from Bert On Beats takes it further into samba breaks and Maga Bo completely transforms the track into a latin grime like vibe with help from MC funkero. Oliveto is a funkier samba where the remixes from Los Chicos Altos takes it down a bit and Thykier ads the real samba de roda feel to it.

Analogik - A great mix by Jenkamusic

Analogik is one of the new and very unique bands coming from the vivid danish independent music scene. The band is mostly known for the playful and festive bending of hiphop, electronic music, world music and many other genres. In the same way as the band is mixing up genres they have also been working in many different projects.

In Denmark they are among other things known for their jingles to one of the most popular danish children programs. They have created the sound design and sound track for the Nintendo Wii game called Max & the magic marker. Analogik was one of the first bands in Denmark to introduce the balkan-gypsi music into the electronic music scene.

The music is somehow evocative, filmic and full of humor. When the band is performing, it is with a relaxed attitude on instruments such as accordion, bass, saxophone, violin, guitar, turntables, analogue synthesizers, percussion and a lot of weird electronic devices - and always in front of a large happy dancing crowd.

As the title indicates this EP is also dedicated to a bunch of refixes of the new tracks. Among the refixers are the french cut-up hiphop producer déBruit (civil music), the cumbia master El Remolon from the argentine label zzk records, swinging punk-ska from the Berlin based group Budzillus, lazy electronic dub from the danish Bo Marley (released on the German Jahtari label) and finally the danish dubstep-hiphop duo Dokkedal/Dixen.

The album is released on the 21st of February as download, but it can also be found in the well assorted vinyl record shops.

La Piranha er det spanske navn for en piratfisk. Piratfisken lever i verdens længste flod, Amazonfloden. Den svømmer rundt i vand det stammer fra Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia og Brasilien. Som for piratfisken således for La Piranha. Den musikalske inspiration er hentet i landene langs Amazonfloden, og med skarpe tænder bringer vi det nyeste inden for disse landes klubscener. La Piranha blander vandet fra det hele til en varm og lidt farlig blanding af Nuevo Cumbia, Salsa, Baile Funk, Tropical Bass, Guarachero, Reggaeton, Samba,, Moombahton og Merengue.

Åbningsaftenen på La Piranha byder på det hele.

Palner & Thykier: Repræsenterer som team den latinske del af det københavnske pladeselskab, UrbanWorld Records. Palner, hovedmanden bag pladeselskabet har spillet over det meste af verden, blandt andet på den tyske festival Fusion, på Thievery Corporations klub "18th Street Lounge" i Washington DC, klubber i New York og Toronto, samt været resident DJ på Roskilde Festival. Thykier, der har boet i Rio De Janeiro, er fast perkussionist i to samba bands samt medlem af bandet Junkyard Productions. Derudover har han arbejdet som latin DJ de sidste 12 år.

He has created a nu-jazz piece which leads your mind towards the grand old masters of jazz. On the remixes, Renegades of Jazz takes it all-the-way into nu-jazz land with a splendid upbeat jazz mix bound to move some floors. Rube visited his old jazz records and made a true blend of swing and hip hop in a sound so unique to Rube. No No, we are not having a vacation at UrbanWorld, we are working on the new releases due for the autumn. So first up is the compilation Global Bass, it is our first physical release and are going to be distributed by Kudos Distribution, its a very limited 2x12" vinyl compilation, all the tracks have been remastered specially for that sound you only get with real wax. Look forward to this.

Here at UrbanWorld we like to travel, we like the sounds of travel and we like to combine it in new and exiting ways. An artist who is brilliant in combining music from around the globe is Kosta Kostov of the BxP Soundsistema, born in Bulgaria, he grew up surrounded by the unique balkan music. Moving to Cologne in Germany opened his mind to clubmusic where he is the main force behind the clubs Balkan Express and Favela Blast and resident DJ of Global Player, the Funkhaus Europe Club.
On his first EP as BxP Soundsistema he is combining the sounds from the Balkan Express and Favela Blast parties, powerful balkan beats with a dancehall rhythm. He worked on this project with the greek funky breakbeat producer & dj George Fotiadis, featuring the serbian MC Killo Killo, Princess Julianna, a Jamaican singer and MC based in London and the Moroccan ribab & violin virtuose player Foulane. An important part of the production and the live shows of BxP Soundsistema is the Greek bouzouki player & percussionist Dimitrius Goldfinger Pingios. The result is fresh new production of own compositions, remixes and mashups, in which the balkan & mediterraneum meets all the nice flavas from dub & reggae through funk & breaks till basss and electro. As if this was not good enough we called Shazalakazoo to get the real sound of balkan disko, BadboE to funk it up bigtime and Al Lindrum to take it all the way to Jamaica.

A long time friend of ours, Al Lindrum, now resident in Barcelona and known from Alberta In Love and The Beat Nation teamed up with DJ WellBecome from the legendary Polka parties in Denmark to form a very special colaboration "Al Lindrum & His Magic Hat". With DJ WellBecome's magic and Al's production skills the duo produced two tracks for us. It is a heavy roller not to be stopped, with heavy bass, jazz and balkan vibes right for the dance-floor. We invited the Spanish producer Makala and our own Unkle Ho to do the remixes. All in all we think this is a very spicy Paella indeed. An a worthy third release.

Sometimes you don't realise there is a new style of music around till it has already been here for some time. Over the last few years there has been a definite new genre developing, based on mashing up beats, swing, jazz, balkan, latin and other global musical influences, with a really cheeky edge. Check Makala, DJ Kormac, Toy Selectah, Palov and Mishkin, Nicodemus, Up Bustle and Out, Ahilea, Sola Rosa etc etc. It's coming together strongly and if ever one record label typified the genre then it's Urban World. So far every release from Urban World has been top of the box stuff and this is no exception. It just needs a name. Art-funk? Burlesque-beat? Quirk-core? Who knows but I'm increasingly playing nothing else in my sets. Absolutely love it. Keep up the good work.
